Being Big, Thompson and Schroeder
Shortlisted Design Futures Award, Manchester School Of Art 2023
Being Big is a collaborative sculptural project between Mia Thompson and Eve Schroeder.
Thompson and Schroeder created the Being to communicate their need for making, and their interest in what makes us feel human. Being Big aims to celebrate feeling human and all the big feelings that come with it. The Being is an exploration of celebrating improving mental health.
Alongside The Being sits a Solograph camera. This tracks the passage of the sun and the passing of time. Feeling the light on your face is a very human experience, it joins you to other people and reminds us that we’re part of something bigger, grounding you to the earth.
They want the sculpture to be an experiential artwork, inviting the viewer to stand alongside the being and feel the sun on their face.
